Naxal killed in blast during MP bypoll

Bhopal, Mar 8 (UNI) A suspected naxal was killed this afternoon when a bomb he was carrying exploded near Churhat in Sidhi district while polling was underway for Lok Sabha byelection, the police said.

''The hitherto-unidentified body of a man, about 20 years old, was found on the Churhat-Teekat road, roughly 35 km from Sidhi district town. Two nine-volt batteries were found in the vicinity,'' Additional Superintendent of Police Saket Pande told UNI over telephone.

Sidhi is one of the few naxalism-affected backward districts in this state and Churhat is the hometown of Union Minister Arjun Singh.

About 50 pc polling in peaceful MP byelection

Bhopal, Mar 8 (UNI) About 50 per cent polling was recorded today for the byelection in Gwalior (42 per cent) and Sidhi (ST) (50 per cent) Lok Sabha constituencies and Udaypura (52 per cent) Assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh. Peaceful polling in MP bypolls

Bhopal, Mar 8(UNI) Amidst tight security, moderate polling is in progress today for the byelections in Gwalior and Sidhi(ST) Lok Sabha and Udaypura Assembly constituencies in Madhya Pradesh. A total of 29 companies of CRPF, besides Special Armed Force, Home Guards and district police personnel have been deployed in the three constituencies, having over 26 lakh electorate and 45 candidates. Polling in 2,749 booths was progressing peacefully, official sources said. In Gwalior, about 15 percent of the 13.79 lakh electorate exercised.....

MP police officer gets Hindi award

Bhopal, Mar 8 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh police official Dr Ambreesh Srivastava has been awarded the prestigious Pandit Govind Vallabh Pant prize- 2005-06 for excellent writing in Hindi on different topics of the police department. Dr Srivastava, at present posted as Assistant Inspector General of Police (Training), has been given a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and a certificate of merit, a police spokesman said today.
