MSTC gets Excellence Award

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The public sector Metal Scrap Trading Corporation (MSTC) has bagged one of the top ten awards among the Central Public Sector Enterprises for the year 2004-05.

According to an official statement issued here today, the company bagged the MOU excellence award.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh handed over the award at a simple function held here today. The award was received by the Chairman and Managing Director of MSTC Malay Sengupta. MSTC won this award against stiff competition from other public sector giants. MSTC was earlier awarded in 2001-02.

Last year, MSTC received Mini Ratna Grade-I award. MSTC is a profit earning and high dividend paying company of the Ministry of Steel. MSTC is a leading trading house and a leading house in the area of e-commerce.

Leading TV news channels form association

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) Seven leading television news and current affairs channels have come together to form an association, the News Broadcasters Association (NBA). They say the aim of the move is to create an environment in which broadcasters can play an effective and meaningful role in the social, cultural and economic life of the country. Congress, NFP win one seat each in Nagaland bypolls

Kohima, Mar 12 (UNI) Ruling Nagaland Peoples Front (NPF) and the Congress today shared one seat each in March 8 by-elections' to two assembly constituencies in the state. While Tuensang Sadar II Assembly seat went to Congress, with the party candidate Mr Kejong defeating his nearest Independent rival Ms Rhakila by 625 votes, the Dimapur I seat went to NFP candidate Atomi Zhimoni. Govt likely to bring down GST at 20 pc

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The government will likely levy the Goods and Services Tax (GST) at 20 per cent, with the combined excise and service tax at about 22 per cent. ''The combined incidence of central excise and service tax at present is about 22 per cent and to bring it down to 20 per cent will not be a problem,'' said Revenue Secretary K M Chandrashekhar at a Post Budget meeting organised by PHDCCI, here.
