MP voters boycott poll in two booths

Shivpuri, MP, Mar 8 (UNI) Voters of two polling centres in Karaira assembly segment in Shivpuri district today boycotted polling for the by-election in Gwalior Lok Sabha constituency.

The boycott was to protest the ''government apathy'' towards their land-related problems due to the proximity to Karaira sanctuary.

''Not a single vote was cast in Ramgarha's and Behganwa polling centre, while only one voter turned up at Nainagir booth,'' District Collector Manohar Agwani said.

Earlier, residents of two dozen villages had announced to boycott polling, as they were facing land-related problems due to proximity to Karaira sanctuary.

PPPC organise fast to shelve Port develp project

Puducherry, Mar 6 (UNI) The Puducherry Peoples' Protection Committee (PPPC) today organised a fast in front of the legislative assembly to press the administration to drop the Port development project here. The committee members alleged that if the project was executed it would badly affect the coastal villages here, particularly Thengaithittu, and also harm environment and ground water. SEC notifies election schedule for Nagar Panchayats

Shimla, Mar 9 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh's State Election Commissioner Rajendra Bhattacharya today notified the election schedule for by-polls to the Nagar Panchayats of Rewalsar in Mandi district, Bhota in Hamirpur district, Ward No three of Nagar Panchayat and Dehra in Kangra district. The nomination papers would be filed on March 19, 20 and 21 between 1000 hrs to 1500 hrs before the officer appointed by the Returning Officer (Deputy Commissioner), she said in a release here. Auto assn take out procession to press demands

Puducherry, Mar 6 (UNI) The Puducherry Pradesh Autorickshaw drivers and owners association members today took out a procession through the main thoroughfares of the town to press their demands. They were demanding, among other things, provision of Rs 10 crore as grant to the unorganised labourers welfare association and sale of auto spares through the cooperative department.
