MoU inked with Canadian varsity for joint academic activities

Chennai, Mar 8 (UNI) Rajalakshmi Engineering College, a self financing college, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Canada-based University of Regina, to take up joint educational and research activities.

Under the agreement, both the institutions have mutually agreed to cooperate on general forms such as joint educational and research activities, exchange of academic materials and publications, a college release here said.

The MoU, signed by Mr Allan Cahoon, Interim President, University of Regina and Mr Meganathan, Correspondent, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, also facilitated for exchange of faculty members for research, lectures and discussions and exchange of students for study and research, the release said.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Canadian Minister for Industry and Resources, Saskatchewan, who assured that he would try to simplify the visa procedures for Indian students to visit Canada for higher studies.

Mr Meganathan said, ''the collaboration, besides facilitating exchange programmes, would aim at having research programmes in Engineering and Business Management.'' UNI

JIPMER Committee to observe fast on Mar 11

Puducherry, Mar 8 (UNI) The Anti-conversion Action Committee of the JIPMER employees will observe a fast near the Venkatasubbareddiyar statue here on March 11 to protest against the Centre's move to convert JIPMER into an autonomous institution. 49 nominations filed on day 3 for phase I of UP poll

Lucknow, Mar 15 (UNI) Altogether 49 nominations were filed on the third day of the first phase of Uttar Pradesh election, in which polling will be held for 62 assembly seats on April 7. Now, 61 candidates are in fray for the first phase of election. Lucknow, Mar 15 (UNI) The Election Commission will hold review of poll preparation for the fifth and sixth phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on March 19 and 22 respectively. State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anuj Kumar Bishnoi said here today Deputy Election Commissioner R Bhattarcharya will hold the meeting of the fifth phase here on March 19.
