MNS chief arrested, remanded to one-day police custody

Akola, Maharahtra, Mar 8 (UNI) A magisterial court remanded Mr Ranjeetsing Chungde, the district president of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) here, to police custody last evening.

Chungde was arrested in connection with the alleged fatal attack on one Mr Surajsing Thakur, in Kholeshwar area of the city, four days ago.

The incident took place following a dispute during Akola Municipal Corporation (AMC) polls on Feb 1, in which Chungade's son was defeated. Mr Chungde took a quarrel with Mr Thakur, a citizen, asking why the former did not co-operate during the election for his son's win.

Following the attack, the supporters of Mr Thakur damaged the car of Chungde. Counter offences were registered by the police.

BMC Alumni Assn donates Rs 5 cr for a modern obstetric hospital

Vadodara, Mar 9 (UNI) Baroda Medical College Alumni Association of North America (BMCAANA) has donated Rs 5 crore to Gujarat government for construction of a new state-of-the-art obstetric building in the premier SSG civil hospital here. Chief minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the Rs 5 crore project at a function scheduled to be held on March 11, association president Dr Ajit Kothari today said. Dr Kothari said that the new 250-bed modern obstetric four-storeyed hospital building work.....

A teenager raped by her maternal uncle

Mumbai, Mar 9 (UNI) Maternal uncle of a teenager was arrested this morning on charges of rape at Dahisar in western suburbs here. Police said accused Kamlesh (27), maternal uncle of the victim, his 14-year-old niece was arrested for raping thrice her in December last year at Dahisar in western suburbs. The matter came to light when the victim complained of abdominal pain and vomitting to her parents late last night. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors diagnosed.....

A major fire broke out at Electric transmission station

Bhuj, Mar 9 (UNI) Electricity supply in the Anjar area was disrupted due to a major fire that broke out in the Central transmission station here last night, causing demages upto Rs three crore. The fire broke out, when a fault occured in the transmission lines. Nearly 20,000 liter diesel stored in the transmission station also burnt in the fire. The electricity supply was restored early this morning. Fire tenders from Kandla ports were able to control the fire within.....
