Leading TV news channels form association

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) Seven leading television news and current affairs channels have come together to form an association, the News Broadcasters Association (NBA).

They say the aim of the move is to create an environment in which broadcasters can play an effective and meaningful role in the social, cultural and economic life of the country.

''The NBA will also help members to chart a course that facilitates news broadcasters in responding to the rapid socio-economic changes in the country and in taking advantage of the opportunities brought in by the economic growth and new technology,'' a press release of the Association said here today.

The founder members of the Association, which is headquartered in the capital here, are Global Broadcast News Ltd (CNBC-TV18, CNN-IBN and IBN 7), Zee News Ltd (Zee News, Zee Business and Zee24 Tass), TV Today Network Ltd (Aaj Tak, Tez and Dilli Aajtak), New Delhi Television Ltd (NDTV 24x7, NDTV India and NDTV Profit), Times Global Broadcasting Company Ltd(Times Now), Media Content and Communication Services(India) Pvt Ltd (Star News and Star Ananda) and Independent News Services (India TV).

These companies will be represented by Sammer Manchanda, Harish Doraiswamy, G Krishnan, KVL Narain Rao, Sunil Lulla, Uday Shankar and Chintamani Rao, respectively.

Ms Annie Joseph would be the Secretray General of the Association.

Most of the founder broadcasters are also member of the Indian Broadcasting Foundation(IBF).

Honours shared by Congress and NPF in Nagaland bypolls

Kohima, Mar 12 (UNI) The Congress and the Nagaland People's Front (NPF) emerged winners in one seat each in the March 8 byelections for Dimapur-I and Tuensang Sadar-II constituencies. Congress candidate Kejong was declared elected from Tuensang Sadar II and Nagaland Peoples Front (NPF) candidate Atomi Zhimomi was declared elected from Dimapur-I Assembly seats. In Tuensang Sadar-II Assembly seat, Mr Kejong defeated his nearest Independent rival Rhakila by a margin of 625 votes. In Dimapur-I Assembly seat, NPF candidate Atomi Zhimomi.....

EC restricts supporters and vehicles for filing nomination

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) has issued directions to the Chief Electoral Officer and the Deputy Chief Electoral Officers that the number of people accompanying the contestants for filing nominations to assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh should not exceed five, including the candidate. According to EC sources, the political parties have also been warned that the candidates should not take more than three vehicles at the time of filing nomination papers either to the office Returning Officer.....

Shiv Sena asks BJP 50 seats in MCD poll

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) The Shiv Sena has asked the BJP to give them 50 seats in the coming MCD polls. Shiv Sena Delhi Chief Jai Bhagwan Goyal today submitted a list of 50 candidates to Delhi BJP chief Harshvardhan. In a statement issued here, Mr Goyal said the decision to contest from 50 seats in the 272-member MCD House was to prevent a division in Hindu votes. He said the candidates included in the list, submitted by him personally.....
