Kolkata celebrates World Kidney Day

Kolkata, Mar 8 (UNI) To raise awareness about one of the body's most vital organs, the second World Kidney Day was observed in the city today.

The observance of World Kidney Day was established by the International Federation of Kidney Foundations to educate persons at risk regarding the importance of prevention and early detection of kidney diseases.

The WKD's theme for this year's was "are your kidneys ok?".

To mark the second World Kidney day, Wockhart hospital's General Manager Rupali Basu anounced to open their second kidney hospital in the city. The hospital also organised an awareness campaign on this day.

City Nephrologist A R Dutta expressing his concerns over the increasing population of chronic kidney diseases patient said "simple tests like urine routine examination and serum Creatinine can pick-up early lot of kidney dieseases." UNI

Campaign in Beas assembly constituency ends this evening

Amritsar, Mar 9 (UNI) A security umberlla has been thrown in the Beas assembly constituency where campaigning comes to an end this evening. The 1,42,089 voters will exercice their franchise march 11. Arunachal CM urges PM for higher allocation

Itanagar, Mar 8 (UNI) Chief Minister Gegong Apang has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to provide higher fund allocation to Arunachal Pradesh. BSP likely to announce UP poll candidates tomorrow

Lucknow, Mar 9 (UNI) BSP is likely to announce its first list of candidates tomorrow as party supremo Mayawati is busy finalising it. Ms Mayawati had reached the state capital yesterday and was supposed to release the list today, but due to some 'hitches' it was delayed for a day.
