'Jassi' in Bhopal on IW Day

Bhopal, Mar 8 (UNI) Actress Mona Singh, of 'Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin' teleseries fame, today lavished praise on the Madhya Pradesh government's welfare schemes for the fairer sex, particularly the Ladli Lakshmi Scheme to be lauched next month for girls.

Mona flagged off a female students' rally in this City of Lakes on the occasion of International Women's Day.

In a brief address, the actress issued a clarion call to female students to ''advance in every sector.'' Later, state Woman and Child Development Minister Kusum Singh Mehdele and Mona accompanied the rally in a jeep. The rallyists reached Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's residence where a cultural programme was witnessed by the Chouhan couple and senior bureaucrats.

Two constables kill selves

Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, Mar 8 (UNI) Two police constables committed suicide today in tribal-dominated and naxalism-affected Bastar division while a third constable died of malaria, the police said. Mizoram Battalion Constable Falta Kima (38), posted in Dantewada district's Konta, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound from his service rifle at a camp this morning. The motive was unclear. By-poll for two Assembly seats in Nagaland begins

Kohima, Mar 8 (UNI) Polling for the byelections to Dimapur-I and Tuensang Sadar II Assembly constituencies in Nagaland began at 0700 hrs today, amid tight security arrangements. Election officials said the polling started at all 59 booths peacefully as voters lined up since dawn to cast their ballots. Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer C J Ponraj told UNI that over 35000 voters are expectedto exercise their franchise in the two districts. While an over 17000 strong electorate is expected to voters.....

Two nominations filed for Palamu bypoll

Ranchi, Mar 8 (UNI) Two nominations were filed today for the Palamu Parliamentary bypoll slated for March 29, taking the candidates' tally to three so far. Deputy Commissioner cum Electoral officer Nagendra Prasad Singh said Prabhat Kumar Bhuyian from Jharkhand Vikas Morcha(Prajatantrik) and Umesh Paswan from the Lokjanshakti Party filed their nominations today. Meanwhile, CPI(ML) had announced to field Mr Ravindra Bhuiyan as its candidate, he would file his nomination on March 9. The last date for filing nomination was fixed.....
