Geelani, son issued passport by RPO in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 8 (UNI) Ailing Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC), and his son were issued passports by the Regional Passport Officer (RPO) here this afternoon to go abroad for specialised medical treatment.

''We have received the passport of Mr Geelani and his son Naseem Geelani,'' a spokesman of the HC Aiyaz Akbar told UNI.

According to the RPO, the passport of Mr Geelani's wife was under process, he said.

The three had applied for the passport yesterday in the Regional Passport Office (RPO) here.

When asked if Mr Geelani will go to United States or England, the spokesman said it would be decided by the HC constituents with the consultation of others.

Six deaths in Delhi due to Meningococcal disease

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) Meningococcal disease or brain fever has so far claimed six lives in Delhi since November and more than 60 cases have been confirmed. Delhi Principal Health Secretary D S Negi confirmed the figures and said hospitals across the capital have been issued special instructions to treat the patients. Belgium offer to treat ailing Hurriyat chairman Geelani

Srinagar, Mar 9 (UNI) A hospital in Belgium has offered to treat ailing Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC). We have received a communication from the Saint Luc Hospital in Belgium offering to treat Mr Geelani, who is suffering from cancer,'' a spokesman of the HC Aiyaz Akbar told UNI.
