Four brothers get life term for murder

Raipur, Mar 8 (UNI) A fast-track court today handed down life imprisonment to five people, including four brothers, for gunning down a transporter in May 2006.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Arvind Verma held Abrar Ahmed alias Madari, his brothers Bachchu, Noora and Bafani and Sunil Bhalkar guilty under different sections of the Indian Penal Code.

However, the court acquitted Aslam alias Chacha for want of evidence.

The prosecution charge-sheet named 12 people as accused in the murder of Satwant Singh Gill alias Gappu following business rivalry among transporters. While six of the accused were arrested, six were still absconding.

Special Public Prosecuter T C Pandey argued against the accused who were represented by advocates Hasim Khan, Ashutosh Dubey and others.

Sanjay Karol takes oath as HP High Court Judge

Shimla, Mar 8 (UNI) Former Himachal Pradesh advocate general Sanjay Kaorl was today sworn in as the Judge of the state High Court in a simple ceremony here. Chief Justice V K Gupta administered the oath of office to Mr Karol, who was advocate general in the previous Dhumal Government. Routine life disrupted in Srinagar ahead of CM's visit

Three cops suspended for burning genetials of arrested

Gulbarga, Mar 8 (UNI) Three policemen, including two officers, of Surpur Police Station in the district were suspended on charges of torturing a man in police custody and trying to burn his genital. Superintendent of police Manish Kharbikar, who rushed to the town about 90 km from here, told UNI that the three policemen including Circle Inspector, a Sub Inspector and a Constable were kept under suspension with immediate effect. Reports said that Mr Yamunappa had been taken into custody last.....
