FIR registerd against Dy CM Patil in Sangli district

Sangli, Maharashtra, Mar 8 (UNI) A First Information Report (FIR) was registered today against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil for allegedly using pressure tactics and threatening a candidate to withdraw his nomination papers from the Panchayat Samiti elections in the district.

The case has been registered against Mr Patil and Sanjay Patil, a new entrant into NCP, under section 171 (f), 342, 506 (34) with Tasgaon police, police sources said.

Shiv Sena Panchayat Samiti candidate Panchakshar Mahadev Jangum of Sidyewadi in Tasgaon tehsil, in his complaint, charged the Deputy Chief Minister and Sanjay Patil of threatening him to withdraw his candidature to pave way for the NCP candidate to be elected unopposed.

Meanwhile, in Mumbai BJP spokesperson Prakash Jawadekar has demanded that Mr Patil, who holds the Home department, should resign or Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh should sack him from the ministry on this ground.

4 arrested for conspiring murder

Mumbai, Mar 8 (UNI) The Mumbai Police have arrested here four persons, including a political activist, from Uttar Pradesh and claimed to have foiled a bid on the life of a city builder in the state. Joint Commissioner of Police Arup Patnaik told reporters that the four -- three sharp-shooters and the activist -- were arrested last evening while they were on their way to commit the offence. Meghalaya govt orders magisterial inquiry into BSF killing

Shillong, Mar 8, (UNI) The Meghalaya government has instituted a magisterial inquiry into the recent killing of 16-year-old Mithun Marak by BSF personnel on March 3 in the state's Ryngku village bordering Bangladesh.
