Fashion designer drowns in a well in Punjab

Ludhiana, Mar 8 (UNI) A local fashion designer died after falling into a 170-foot deep well at her parents home near Sangeet Cinema in the city late last night, police today said.

The victim identified as Rajni, was the daughter of the cinema owner and a neice of Dr Manjit Kaur, daughter of former President, Giani Zail Singh. Her dead body was taken out of the well by army divers this morning.

The police have sent the body for postmortem and are investigating the matter. The parents in a statement to the police claimed that Rajni had gone to draw water from the well when she slipped and fell into it.

The police are also working on a probable suicide angle, as the victim was reportedly unhappy over her engagement to an NRI.

Four Lashker militants among six killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 8 (UNI) Four militants of Pakistan based Lashker-e- Toiba (LeT) were among six people killed in the Kashmir valley overnight. Giving details about last night's fierce encounter Superintendent of Police (SP), Handwara, Dr Haseeb Mughal said a tip off was received from locals that some militants were hiding in the woods at Rajwar in the frontier district of Kupwara. A joint operation was immediately launched by police and 21 Rashitriya Rifles (RR) after all the exit points were sealed.....

Punjab to float Rs 300 crore loan for 10 years tenure

Chandigarh, Mar 8 (UNI) The Punjab Government in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has proposed to float a loan of Rs 300 crore of ten years tenure, auction of which would be kept open on March 13, 2007. Disclosing this here today, a spokesman of the Department of Finance (Punjab) said the state government stock would be sold through RBI, Mumbai office (PDO) Fort, Mumbai by auction at a coupon rate to be determined by the RBI at.....

Budget session of Haryana assembly begins tomorrow

Chandigarh, Mar 8 (UNI) As many as eleven new bills will be moved in the Haryana assembly during its budget session which will commence tomorrow. As per the tentative programme, the budget will be presented in the assembly on March 16, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Randeep Surjewala told reporters here today. The bills to be moved in the house during the session would include the Punjab Labour Welfare Fund (Haryana Amendment) Bill, the Haryana Police Bill, the Society Registeration (Haryana amendment) Bill,.....
