Delimitation Commission hears people

Visakhapatnam, Mar 8 (UNI) The Delimitation Commission of India (DCI) led by Chief Election Commissioner of India (ECI) N Gopalaswamy today said the draft report on delimitation of constituencies for Lok Sabha and State Assembly will be submitted in a month's time.

Speaking to mediapersons here after a public hearing, Mr Gopalaswamy said he received tremendous response from the people of Guntur District for suggestions and proposals on delimitation.

The draft report would be published in a month's time and the final decision would be taken by the DCI.

The DCI heard members of the public and senior citizens from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur Districts.

People and peple's representatives came in large numbers from the districts to air their opinions.

Major political parties and leaders were unanimously demanding rewriting the report as the draft was reportedly full of factual errors.

EC appoints Observers for UP polls

New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) The Election Commission of India today appointed 320 officers as observers for the coming Uttar Pradesh assembly election. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalaswami told newspersons here today that to ensure close monitoring and supervision, one General Observer had been appointed for each assembly constituency. The 320 observers comprise 234 general observers, 61 expenditure observers and 25 special observers and phase coordinators. He said the election observers will reach the alloted constituencies at least one.....

TDP legislators stage sit-in before speaker's chamber

Hyderabad, Mar 8 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party (TDP) legislators today staged a dharna in front of Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy's chamber, protesting against their suspension from the House. After being suspended from the House for two days for disrupting the proceedings, the legislators sat in front of the Speaker's chamber and raised slogans against the Andhra Pradesh Government. Later, TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu said the government was not allowing the opposition to raise any issue in the assembly.....

Khurana releases first list of 99 for next month's MCD polls

New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) Bharatiya Jan Shakti leader M L Khurana today released the first list of 99 candidates of his 'group' that would contest the forthcoming municipal elections jointly under the 'chashma' (spectacles) symbol of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). Announcing the list, comprising nine from the INLD and 90 from the BJS, former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana, along with Ajay Chautala, said his 'group' was aiming for a majority in the MCD elections which would.....
