CVC recommends prosecution of 179 bureaucrats, govt sanctions 43

New Delhi, Mar 08 (UNI) Eventhough the Central Vigilance Commission recommended prosecution of 179 IAS, IPS and IRS officers and major penalties against 350 of them during the past ten years, authorities concerned sanctioned prosecution in only 43 cases and major penalty was awarded in 70 cases, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Minister of state for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Suresh Pachouri said in a written reply that seven officers have been dismissed from service during this period and in one case, the officer has been exonerated.

He said CVC had recommended prosecution of 106 IAS officers, 23 IPS officers and 50 IRS officers during the past ten years. It had also suggested major penalty against 55 IAS officers, 15 IPS officers and 280 IRS officials.

Regarding the punative action scenario against corrupt officers, he said the Commission after tendering advice recommending action against government officials, follow-up the same for a timely action. As and when a case of undue delay comes to its notice, appropriate action is recommended in the matter, he informed.

India has no Pakistan-specific no-tariff barriers: Pranab

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) India today said it did not have in force any Pakistan-specific no-tariff barrier and hence there was no justification in denial of Most Favoured Nation(MFN) treatment to it by Pakistan.
