CPM volunteers held for damaging BSNL cables

Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, Mar 8 (UNI) Police arrested 33 CPI (M) volunteers for allegedly damaging BSNL's cable network at Thirukkandalam Village near here today.

Police said on March five, a group of CPI(M) volunteers dug up the road to prevent plying of sand lorries used for illegal sand mining.

In the process, the BSNL cables in the area were severely damaged thereby disrupting the communication network.

Based on a complaint from BSNL authorities, police today arrested the accused despite strong protests. They were later remanded in judicial custody.

Doctor arrested on molestations charge

Tirupati, Mar 8 (UNI) Police have arrested a Radiologist of the Government Ruia hospital here on the charge of molesting a minor girl. According to hospital sources, a 13-year-old girl, suffering from severe headache, came to the hospital along with her family members to consult the doctor. The physician asked the girl to take a CT scan in the Scan centre. While carrying out the scan, the Radiologist Kondala Rao allegedly molested the girl, family members alleged and lodged a complaint.....

Dowry harassment: Women organisations stage dharna

Vijayawada, Feb 24 (UNI) Several women organisations staged a dharna in front of Ibrahimpatnam police station today demanding the immediate arrest of a man and his parents for allegedly harassing his wife for more dowry. Police said Mohd Basheer, a software engineer working in Dubai , had married Sheikh Gousia in 2002. At the time of the marriage, Gousia's parents gave Rs two lakh in cash and 25 gold ornaments to Basheer. Basheer's parents, who went to Dubai last year, started.....

Tree cultivation in private lands to be encouraged: Raja

Chennai, Feb 24 (UNI) Union Minister for Environment and Forests A Raja today reitreated that tree cultivation in private land had to be encouraged for it would protect humanity. Inaugurating a workshop on the subject organised by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department here, he urged protection of forests as the need of the hour since the majority of the population was associated with and dependent on natural resources. Disclosing the Centre's move to expand existing forest cover to 33.....
