Court rejects Doshi's anticipatory bail application

Mumbai, Mar 8 (UNI) A local court today rejected the anticipatory bail application (ABA) of film producer Gaurang Doshi, following the addition of section 376 (rape) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the earlier complaint of assault and threat to life lodged by starlet Flora Saini with Versova Police station on February 16.

Additional Sessions Judge P V Barker said as the court did not have powers to entertain ABA under section 376 (Rape), the petition was rejected. However, Judge Bavkar granted time till March 16 to Mr Doshi to move Bombay High Court for relief.

Defence advocate Mohammed Idris Javed said another petition was moved today, adding section 376, alongwith earlier 325 (assault), 427 (damage) and 506 (II) (threat to life) of IPC.

On the last occasion, Doshi's advocate had filed another affidavit denying all charges stated in the police complaint by Ms Saini. He alleged that in fact she was after Doshi's money and he had already returned all her valuables to her.

Ms Saini had claimed in her application that he (Gaurang) had promised to marry her and that she was staying with him since the last one-and-a-half years. He had failed to keep his promise.

During the period of one-and-half years, he took her to South Africa for 15 days and to other parts of the country, including Pune and Delhi. She claimed ''On February 14 this year, I pressed for marriage. But he got angry and assaulted me. To save my life, I ran from there and went to my parents house in suburban Andheri,'' she added.
