Court rejects bail plea of former Cong corporator, son

Akola, Maharashtra, Mar 8 (UNI) The Sessions Court here has rejected for the second time, the bail plea of former Congress corporator Aliyar Khan, popularly known as 'Allu Pahelwan', and his son Azad Khan, accused of creating chaos during polling for the recent Akola Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections.

The father and son are languishing in jail since their arrest on Feb 1. However, other twelve persons, who had been arrested for riot, have been released on bail in the first week of February, police said.

The duo has been booked under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for attempting to murder and threatening the cops for dire consequences.

Defence counsel Mr Munna Khan said he would prefer an appeal against the order in the High Court Bench at Nagpur in near future.

Two killed after truck skids off

Jamnagar, Mar 9 (UNI) Two persons were killed when a truck in which they were travelling skidded off the road near Laiyra village, 50 km from here, on the Rajkot-Jamnagar highway early today. Police said the mishap occurred when the truck, registered in Rajasthan, was overtaking a stationary luxury bus bound for Dwarka. The unidentified bodies are that of the truck driver and cleaner, police said, adding that the bodies have been sent to a nearby government hospital for post-mortem......

Guj Bar Counil to enhance welfare fund

Ahmedabad, Mar 9 (UNI) The Bar Council of Gujarat proposes to enhance funds meant for the welfare of the family of an advocate in the event of the member's death. For this purpose, the Council has doubled the price of the welfare tickets, that it issues, to Rs 10, a press release here today said. The Gujarat Bar Council issues the tickets in order to provide financial aid to a deceased member's family. UNI.....

About 25 pc polling registered in Ahmednagar Dist

Ahmednagar, Mar 11 (UNI) About 25 per cent polling was registered till 1400 hrs from 14 talukas of the 75 Zilla Parishad seats and 150 Panchyat Samiti of the district. Talking to UNI District Collector Umakant Dangat said barring some incidents of bogus voting in Mandavgaon of the district, the polling has been peaceful. He said he has asked Additional Superintendent of Police to investigate ''bogus voting'' in Mandavgaon. Mr Dangat said a case of violation of the model.....
