Continental to have daily Mumbai-New York service

New Delhi, Mar 8: Continental Airlines will launch daily non-stop flights between Mumbai and New York from October 31.

The new service will link India's commercial and entertainment capital with New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Continental's Mumbai-New York/Newark flights will be operate with a 283-seat Boeing 777-200 aircraft, carrying 48 passengers in the BusinessFirst cabin and 235 in Economy.

Flying times will be 16 hours 15 minutes westbound and 14 hours 50 minutes eastbound. The world's fifth largest airline has operated a Delhi-New York non-stop service since 2005.

Continental has more than 3,100 daily departures throughout the America, Europe and Asia, serving 150 US and 136 international destinations. It carries 67 million passengers per year.

Truck mows down school girl at Matharangi cross

Barrackpore, Mar 8: A class XI student was today mowed down by a speeding truck at Matharangi crossing near Nilgunge in North 24 Parganas today.Police said Beauty Roy of Beraberia village was standing beside the road with her bicycle when the truck carrying gas cylinders suddenly lost brake and hit her. Kolkata, Mar 8: A former coach of national shooter Sheuli Sadhukhan, who was shot at by some assailants at Srerampore in neighbouring Howrah district yesterday, was today arrested on charges of involvement in the incident.Police said Swapan Sanyal was taken into custody from his house, also at Srerampore, early this morning on charges of attempt to murder on the basis of an FIR lodged by Sheuli's father.They further said that the former coach was suspected to be involved in the shooting.....

'Lankan-type pact with Pak for fishermen's release'

Gandhinagar, Mar 8: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today urged the Centre to go in for a ''Sri Lankan type'' of agreement with Pakistan while dealing with arrested Indian fishermen. The pact with Sri Lanka allows both parties to complete the verification formalities within 15 days and then sending the captured fishermen back to their respective countries without much delay.
