Cong leader in Pondy Municipality elected

Puducherry, Mar 8 (UNI) Mr Govindaraj, the Congress councillor elected from Ellangonagar ward, was today chosen as the Congress party leader in the Puducherry Municipality.

Mrs M Madivadani was elected as the deputy leader and Mr Rajan the whip.

The DMK has 13 councillors in the Municipality and Dr Sreedevi of the party holds the post of the Chairperson. The Congress with nine councillors is the Opposition.

In the 42-member civic body, the Puducherry Munnetra Congress has five members, AIADMK four, CPI one and Independents ten.

The elected leaders called on Chief Minister N Rangasamy and PCC president P Shanmugham.

Photo electoral roll in UP before 2009 general election: CEO

Lucknow, Mar 14 (UNI) Election Commission has announced to put in place a comprehensive photo electoral roll in Uttar Pradesh before the 2009 Lok Sabha election. Lankan Tamil taken into custody

Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu, Mar 8 (UNI) Police today took into custody a Sri Lankan Tamil here for allegedly staying without any valid travel document or permission. Police said, Immanuel of Jaffna had been working with a private rice mill here for the past many months without informing of his stay to the authorities.
