Centre asks states to implement RTI Act from their own funds

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The Centre has declined the request of many states seeking its assistance in implementing the Right to Information Act and told them to meet the statutory obligations from their own funds.

Miniser of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Suresh Pachaury told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that states like Chhatisgarh, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Mizora, Tripura and Uttarakhand have sought central assistance for implemention of RTI Act.

He said Parliament has, by law, cast an obligation on the state governments to implement the Act and they are required to meet this statutory obligation from their own funds.

There was no immediate proposal to exclude more categories of information from the purview of the RTI Act, hesaid.

LS adopts Motion of Thanks on President's address

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The Lok Sabha today unanimously adopted the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address to both Houses of Parliament on February 23. The motion, moved by Congress member Madhusudan Mistry on March 1, was adopted at the end of a three-day-long discussion. Before the motion was put to vote by Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh replied to the debate in which nearly 100 members participated. UNI.....
