CBI Court sends Delhi Police's AAP to 14 days judicial custody

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) A Special CBI Court here today sent an Assistant Public Prosecutor of Delhi Police, arrested on bribery charges yesterday, to 14 days judicial custody.

Barua was arrested by the CBI yesterday after he allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a defence lawyer for giving a favourable opinion.

The CBI received a complaint from the defence lawyer that the public prosecutor contacted and demanded Rs 10,000 to give a favourable opinion in a case registered in Vasant Kunj Police Station. The CBI laid a trap and caught Barua red-handed while he was recieving the bribe.

Special Judge CBI I K Kochar sent Barua to 14 days judicial custody.

The court also directed that Barua's medical examination be conducted as his counsel pleaded that he is sufferring from TB and diabetes.

Ahmed takes over as DG of CRPF

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) Senior IPS officer Syed Iftikhar Sultan Ahmed today took over as the new Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He succeeds Mr G K Sinha who retired three months ago. Mr J K Dutt has been holding charge during the gap. A 1970 batch officer of the West Bengal cadre, Mr Ahmed has been Director General of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) since May 2005. 10-years-RI to 3 for rape

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) A local court today sentenced three persons to ten-years rigorous imprisonment(RI) each for gangraping a pregnant woman in 2002. ASJ N P Kaushik also imposed a fine of Rs 10000 each on the convicts identified as Pramod, Ramdhan and Harbansh. The woman had been gangraped by seven people. The four others have been identified as juveniles and are facing charges in a trial court. UNI.....

Amendment of Motor Vehicle Act approved

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The government today approved the Amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 that would remove ambiguities and difficulties in the enforcement of the provisions in the Act. This would improve responsiveness of transport authorities in meeting the requirements of the citizens, improve public transport and strengthen the enforcement of safety related provisions. The new amended Bill would be called --''The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2007'', Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said after the cabinet.....
