By-poll for two Assembly seats in Nagaland begins

Kohima, Mar 8 (UNI) Polling for the byelections to Dimapur-I and Tuensang Sadar II Assembly constituencies in Nagaland began at 0700 hrs today, amid tight security arrangements.

Election officials said the polling started at all 59 booths peacefully as voters lined up since dawn to cast their ballots.

Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer C J Ponraj told UNI that over 35000 voters are expectedto exercise their franchise in the two districts.

While an over 17000 strong electorate is expected to voters would cast their ballots cast their ballots in 38 polling stations spread over seven wards of Dimapur town, a total of over 18000 voters would exercise their franchise in 21 polling stations spreading over 14 villages in Tuensang Sadar II assembly constituency.

A four-layered security cover comprising of the CRPF, Nagaland Armed Police, District Executive Force and Indian Reserve Battalion has been thrown to ensure free and fair polling.

240 gm smack seized

Shajapur, MP, Mar 8 (UNI) One person was arrested and 240 gm smack, worth Rs 2.5 lakh, was seized from him, from this district's Badaud bordering Rajasthan, police said today. ''On a tip-off, Vikram Singh Saundhiya was arrested last night while returning from Dag in Rajasthan and 240 gm smack was seized from the box of his motorcycle,'' Inspector Ajay Verma said. The accused was arrested under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. UNI.....

Estimated 15 per cent polling in MP byelections till noon

Bhopal, Mar 8 (UNI) An estimated 15 per cent of more than 26 lakh electorate exercised their franchise today till noon today in the by-elections to Gwalior and Sidhi(ST) Lok Sabha and Udaypura Assembly constituencies in Madhya Pradesh. According to official sources, polling in 2,749 booths was progressing peacefully amid tight security arrangements. As many as 29 companies of CRPF, besides Special Armed Force, Home Guards and district police personnel have been deployed in the three constituencies, having over 26 lakh.....
