Bomb scare in city's school proves hoax

Surat, Mar 8 (UNI) An anonymous call received by a school here today, saying a bomb has been planted in the premises, proved to be a hoax after a thorough serach by the police.

Police said the authorities of Navdeep High School, situated in the Pandesara Housing Society area, received the call this morning.

The news created panic in the school. The authorities immediately informed the police.

A bomb disposal squad and a dog squad rushed to the spot and conducted a thorough search of the premises, but they found nothing.

According to a rough estimate, more than 20 hoax calls were made in the city in the current year, saying that bombs had been planted at various places like courts, schools, banks and trains, police added.

Scribes protest alleged attempt to prosecute media in Asom

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) Representatives of the media fraternity, under the umbrella of Joint Forum of Journalists Associations today, staged a demonstration here against alleged attempt to prosecute journalists and proprietors of media houses by the governments of Asom and Andhra Pradesh. Former MLA's son shot dead in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Mar 8 (UNI) The son of a former MLA was shot dead by a criminal following a scuffle at Chakradharpur in Jharkhand's Chaibasa district today. Police said Laxman Hemboram was the son of former MLA Sukhdev Hembrom. Police nabbed the assailant from the scene of crime, about 30 km from Chaibasa, and identified him as Ratan Kiu.
