Bihar government mulling for interlinking of rivers

Patna, Mar 8 (UNI) Bihar assembly passed the budgetary demands amounting to over Rs 1600 crores for the Water Resources department with voice vote today.

Replying to the debate on the budgetary demands of his ministry, Bihar Water Resources Minister Ramhashray Prasad Singh, who is also holding the Parliamentry Affairs portfolio, said the state government was working over the project for interlinking of rivers.

He said the state government was negotiating with the Jharkhand government for the purpose and formalities were underway to interlink the rivers flowing between the two states.

He said the work on Durgawati reservoir would be functional by the end of this year and the government was also working to complete the Chakri dam and upper Chakri dam.

He said flood and drought were major cause of concern and the government had definite plans to deal with the problem. The government was also working on the plan to solve the water logging problem of ``taal`` area (reverin bed).

Later Mr Ramchandra Purvey of RJD moved the cut motion for the budgetary demands which was later passed with voice vote.

Two run over by a speeding train

Buxar Mar 8 (UNI) Altogether two passengers were killed on the spot by the speeding 2391 Shramjeevi express near Bhadaura railway station between Buxar and Dildarnagar railway stations today. Railway sources said here that the passengers of 4056 Down Tinsukiya express started jumping from the train in panic after they saw smoke around the train. Nine injured in bomb blast

Guwahati, Mar 8 (UNI) At least nine people were injured, two of them critically, when suspected ULFA militants exploded a grenade in the Kakopathar town in Tinsukia district. Police said the incident occurred at 1920 hours in front of a post office in the main town. Nine, including two student leaders, had been wounded. CITU condemns the govt not holding pre-budget talks with TUs
