Ban on carrying firearms in Delhi till April 9

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) In view of the upcoming polls to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on April 5, the carrying of firearms, swords and other weapons has been banned in the capital till April 9.

According to an order issued by Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul, carrying of firearms (including licensed firearms), cudgels, swords, spears, bludgeons, knives, sticks or 'lathis' in any public place within the Union Territory of Delhi has been banned with immediate effect till April 9.

However, any person professing, believing or following Sikh faith may carry or possess with him a 'Kirpan' (of the prescribed type).

Any person contravening this order will be punishable under Clause (a) of Sub Section (2) of section 113 of the Delhi Police Act, 1978 which provides punishment or imprisonment for a term upto one year with likelihood of imposition of a fine.

Also, in view of the above order, licensees have been directed not to bring weapons for inspection to the licensing branch, at the time of renewal of their licenses, till the election process is over.

HC sends team after Councillors to check their illegal dairies

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today sent a team comprising a top MCD official and an Advocate to visit East Delhi to verify the complaint that Councillors Sirish Chaudhury and Ajit Tiwari were running illegal dairies in their localities. A division bench of Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice H R Malhotra asked the MCD Commissioner A K Nigam, who was present in the court, to depute the area Deputy Commissioner to accompany Advocate Meera Bhatia to go.....

CBSE examinations commence

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations commenced across the country today. More than 12.07 lakh pupils are appearing for the twelfth and tenth standard examinations. For the twelfth standard examination, which began today, about 5,02,688 students, including 2,11,582 girls, appeared. The number has registered an increase of 9.59 per cent compared to last year, when 4,54,480 candidates wrote the examination. More than 7,05,152 pupils, including 4,12,455 boys, will appear for the tenth class examinations,.....

Robbers who burgled Noida house of Union Minister Kanti Singh nabb

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The Delhi police have busted an inter-state gang of robbers involved in several cases of dacoity, including a burglary last month in a Noida house of Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries Kanti Singh. Three members of the gang - Rajesh Khushwaha, Uma Shankar and Sunil Kumar Gupta were arrested after one Vijay Kumar Aggrawal reported that four persons, including one in police uniform, committed roberry in his house last month on pretext of verification......
