Awards to MP panchayats for women's uplift

Bhopal, Mar 8 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said that awards would be given to village panchayats that organised separate women's gram sabhas for solving women's problems and attained a 50:50 gender balance.

''Women's reservation in civic bodies, teachers' posts and the police are steps towards empowerment,'' he said at the Ravindra Bhavan here while addressing a state-level programme to mark the International Women's Day. The draft of Madhya Pradesh's Women's Policy 2007-11 was also presented on the occasion.

The Policy would be finalised on the basis of suggestions from the women's organisations and people's representatives.

NCP attains numero uno position in Panchayat samiti election

Mumbai, Mar 13 (UNI) NCP has achieved the number one position in Panchayat Samiti elections in Maharashtra. According to state election commission sources, the election for 3,275 wards in 310 Panchayat Samitis took place and so far, the results of 3,256 wards have been declared. While NCP has got 936 seats, the Congress has 921. The main opposition Shiv Sena continued to be at number three position by bagging 530, while BJP was at fourth with 407. There were 302 independents.....

Corporation Bank's total business to touch Rs 80,000 cr: MD

Tirupati, Mar 8 (UNI) Corporation Bank Chairman and Managing Director B Samba Murthy said the total business of the bank was expected to touch Rs 80,000 crore by March. Addressing a press conference here yesterday, he said the Bank was striving for better performance in the coming years and had set a target to raise total business to Rs 1,00,000 crore by March 2008. Besides the existing 880 branches, the bank would open 15 more and 74 more ATM centres.....

Decision about RLD, Jana Morcha, Cong alliance likely tomorrow

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) As the notification for the seven-phase Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh were issued in Lucknow today, the national capital here witnessed hectic efforts to finalise an alliance of former Prime Minister VP Singh-led Jana Morcha, the Rashtriya Lok Dal of Ajit Singh and the Congress. The BJP has already declared its partnership with the Apna Dal and the JD(U) for the state elections. A Jana Morcha source told UNI that Mr Ajit Singh had a meeting.....
