APSRTC improves profit, performance.

Hyderabad, Mar 8 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has made a profit of Rs 95 crore so far in the current financial year with reduction in Motor Vehicle Tax and full reimbursement of cost of concessions from the government.

The Andhra Pradesh Government helped RTC by way of 100 per cent reimbursement of cost of concessions and drastic reduction in MV Tax from 12.5 percent to seven per cent in the rural areas and from ten to five per cent in the city in 2005-06, according to an official release here today.

The traffic revenue in the current financial year upto February this year was Rs 3,358.10 crore as against Rs 2,910.43 crore last year and earned an additional 15.38 per cent of traffic revenue over that of last year.

APSRTC had made rapid strides in its services to the travelling public and had implemented various innovations, reforms and measures to improve its services to commuters.

During the month of Feb this year, the corporation had registered occupancy ratio of more than 70 per cent and netted an additonal traffic revenue of Rs 20 crore over and above that of February 2006.

SAD candidate all set to win Beas assembly seat

Amritsar, Mar 14 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate Manjinder Singh Kang had established an unbeatable lead of 4,183 votes over his nearest rival and sitting MLA, Jasbir Singh Dimpa of the Congress in Beas assembly constituency of Punjab. According to the Returning Officer of the constituency, 669 votes locked in a Electronic Voting Machine (EVMs) were yet to be counted. Lucknow, Mar 14 (UNI) Samajwadi Party general secretary and state PWD minister Shivpal Singh Yadav will file his nomination papers for the Jaswant Nagar seat tomorrow for the forthcoming assembly elections. Younger sibling of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, Shivpal is the first senior political leader to file his nomination papers for the assembly elections in the state. SAD candidate wins Beas assembly seat

Amritsar, Mar 14 (UNI) The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) won the Beas assembly seat, with its candidate Manjinder Singh Kang had defeating his nearest rival Jasbir Singh Dimpa of the Congress by a margin of 4,183 votes in a 12-cornered contest. SAD wrested the seat from the Congress to take its tally to 49 seats in the 117-member Assembly.
