Another Sunny day in Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) Sunny weather prevailing over Delhi in the post-Holi period continued today even though cold North Westerlies added chill to the early morning air.

For the fourth consecutive day in the today, Delhi experienced a bright Sunny day. Though the strong surface Northwesterly winds lent some chill to the morning air, the maximum rose to 25.5 Degree C.

The minimum today was recorded at 12.3 Degree Celsius, two degrees below normal.

Delhi's march towards Summer could be, however, halted somewhat in the coming weekend with the weathermen forecasting fresh rainfall and thundershowers in Delhi and other plains of Northwest India from tomorrow evening onwards for the next three to four days under the influence of a fresh Western disturbance.

Isolated hailstorms or thundersqualls are also expected in some parts of NorthWest India during the same period.

The weather office has forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours. They have also forecast a rise in maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi to 27 Degree C and 13 Degree C respectively.

Shekhawat becomes woman on International Women's Day

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) Enthused by the celebratory mood of women on International Women's Day, Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat today turned into a woman to enjoy the occasion. Asked about his message to the women of the country, Mr Shekhawat told UNI, ''What more message I can give when I myself turned into a woman to enjoy the day.'' Actually, Mr Shekhawat was referring to the incident when while releasing the commemorative postal stamps and first day covers highlighting.....

Dikshit calls on women to empower themselves

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today exhorted women to empower themselves economically and socially to become independent decision-makers. ''Gender related inequality exists, particularly in rural areas.... the situation can improve only if women become independent decision-makers,'' Ms Dikshit said in her address at the International Women's Day Function organised by the Delhi Commission for Women. Stressing on educating women, she said they can claim their rights, instead of just accepting what is given to.....

Talks, seminars mark International Women's Day

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) Scores of functions to celebrate and make the world realise, how women were equally contributing for development and well-being of the human being, were organised throughout the country on the occasion of the International Women's Day today. Speaking at a function here, Bollywood actress Preity Zinta said women should stand up for themselves in the male-dominated society. ''Women's Day is a celebration of my being.... Frankly, women don't need any inspiration. They should inspire themselves each.....
