Agents arrested, girls including minors rescued

Hyderabad, Mar 8 (UNI) As many as 274 agents were arrested and 296 girls, including 79 minor girls were rescued from brothel houses in the past two months, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy informed the state Assembly today.

Replying to Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi and other AIMIM members special squads had been formed in Hyderabad, Eluru and Anatapur to curb trafficking in women and rescue women from brothel houses.

Assuring the members to convene an all party meet to tackle the problem, he pacified dissatisfied AIMIM members that he would provide more details on missing girls while replying to the debate on the police department.

The government had taken as a challenge the problem of women trafficking, and if needed law would be amended to award stringent punishment to brothel agents, he added.

The state had been sanctioned 28 'Sadar Units' to tackle the problem, he said.

Three elderly passengers from Queen Mary 2 hospitalised in Kochi

Kochi, Mar 8 (UNI) Three elderly passengers aboard 'Queen Mary 2', the largest cruise ship in the world, which berthed off Kochi for a day, were admitted to a city hospital following cardiac and other problems. The three male tourists, one from the UK and two from Australia, were admitted to the Medical Trust Hospital here yesterday. Their condition was stable and the treatment was continuing, hospital sources said today. The cruise ship left for its onward journey to Dubai.....

Mulayam seeks to comfort disgruntled Beni

Lucknow, Mar 16 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today said disgruntled Samajwadi Party general secretary and Lok Sabha member Beni Prasad Verma will remain in the party and his annoyance would be sorted out soon. ''There is no question of Mr Verma forming a new party and everything will be settled soon,'' he assured. Addressing a news conference here, Mr Yadav said ''I know him well, as he had announced formation of a new party several times earlier.''.....

EC removes UP Chief Secretary

Lucknow, Mar 16 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) today removed Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary (CS) Navin Chandra Bajpai. Senior IAS officer Shambhu Nath of 1970 batch, the senior-most officer serving in the UP, is the new Chief Secretary of the state with immediate effect. EC has also given an extension of six months to the new Chief Secretary, who was due to retire from service on March 31. Yesterday, the EC had appointed G L Sharma as the new DGP of.....
