Web18 picks stake in BigTree Entertainment

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) The TV18 Group's internet arm, Web18, has acquired a majority stake in Bigtree Entertainment Pvt Ltd, a leader in movie and entertainment ticketing, to further strengthen its position in the internet and mobile transactions space.

The acquisition strengthens Web18's position in the e-transactions space, both on the PC as well as mobile phones, a company statement said today.

Over the past eight years, Bigtree has established a strong brand presence in the Indian market by offering its integrated entertainment ticketing solutions and services across 35 cities.

''This acquisition is in line with our strategy to strengthen our position in the Consumer Internet space,'' TV18 Group CEO Haresh Chawla said.

Bigtree provides the necessary software, processes, systems, door delivery options, cash collection, warehousing and accounting services, and currently handles over 2.5 million ticketing transactions annually for all major exhibition chains, centres across the country.

The company had acquired a significant stake in Yatra.com and Jobstreet.com India a few months ago.

NCP releases candidate's list for Meghalaya assembly polls

Shillong, Feb 27 (UNI) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today officially declared the names of their 13 party candidates for the Meghalaya Assembly polls scheduled to be held next year. Former Lok Sabha Speaker and NCP leader Purno A Sangma, who is leaving national politics and stake claim for chief ministership, is contesting from Tura assembly constituency, NCP state president W R Kharlukhi told reporters here. TMMK activists demand reservation for Muslims

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Activists of the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) today held a protest rally, demanding reservation for Muslims in educational institutions and employment opportunities in Central as well as State government departments. The TMMK workers were joined by activists of other organisations, including All India United Muslim Morcha and the Dalit Muslim Liberation Movement. The rally commenced at Ramlila Ground and proceeded towards Jantar Mantar where it was stopped as prohibitory orders are in place......

Govt reviewing accreditation norms

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) The existing framework of assessment and accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is under review. The job is being done by the University Grants Commission, Minister of State for Human Resource Development D Purandeswari told the Lok Sabha today. So far, NAAC has assessed and accredited 131 universities and 3074 colleges the details of which are available on the website, www.naacindia.org, the Minister said in a written reply. UNI.....
