US Air Force Band to perform in Kolkata

Kolkata, Mar 7 (UNI) ''Pacific Trends'', the famous United States Air Force band of the Pacific-Asia, arrives here on a three-day visit to the city on March 10 to perform for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Indian Air Force.

The eight-member team with Major Daniel L. Price as the Band Commander will perform at Tollygunge Club, American Center and at the Calcutta School of Music in front of capacity audiences during its sojourn. The team will also hold a master class at the Calcutta School of Music on the concluding day, sources at the US Deputy Mission in the city informed today.

This multi-talented group which regularly travels across the Far East to perform for troops' morale boosting concerts and at community relations concerts, will treat audiences to a taste of American popular music including the hit songs from the 1960s through the new millennium, the sources added.

The band which gives some 400 performances every year, had performed in a number of countries around the world including Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Guam, Singapore, Australia, Thailand, Taiwan, the Philippines and Laos besides Korea, Japan and several European countries.

Kerala Folklore fellowship, award announced

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 15 (UNI) Kerala Cultural Minister M A Baby today announced the Kerala Folklore Academy fellowship and awards. Malayala Manorama Assistant Editor Paul Manail's book 'Keralathile Bhashanunapakshangal' was chosen the best book. He will receive a cash prize of Rs 5,000. The three fellowships were shared by Podikkalam Parambil Kannan Peruvannan (Theyyam), Ustad A V Ahammad Kutty Master (Daft mutt) and P P Madhava Panicker (Marathukali), Mr Baby said. 3-day Phalgun Utsav to showcase Bengali culture in Goa

Panaji, Feb 20 (UNI) As part of an initiative to showcase Bengali culture and its links with Goa, the Bengali Cultural Association here has decided to organise a three-day 'Phalgun Utsav' from February 22. The secretary of the association R P Paul told mediapersons that the House of Dempos, Goa Tourism Development Corporation, Eastern Zone Cultural Centre, Kolkata and Wisitex Foundation besides the state department of Art and Culture will collaborate for the event, claimed to be first of its kind.....

Rajasthan may acquire havelis if owners ignore conservation

Jaipur, Feb 20 (UNI) Haveli owners in Rajasthan may have to give up their properties if they fail to conserve them. The state government is planning an amendment soon in its Monument, Archaelogical sites and Antiquities Act of 1961 to protect the havelis of the state. Till now, there is no provision in the Act which can compel the haveli owners to look after their properties, which are steadily getting dilapidated. The havelis, especially in the Shekhawati region, are known.....
