Two farmers commits suicide west Vidarbha region

Akola, Maharashtra, Mar 7 (UNI) The incidence of farmers' suicide continues unabated as two more farmers allegedly committed suicide in the Western Vidarbha region during last 48 hours.

A debt-ridden farmer of nearby village Wazegaon ended his life last night when a programme of 'Kirtan' (spiritual discourse) organised by the agriculture department under special package for the farmers in Vidarbha, was in progress.

The deceased, identified as Sarangdhar Dnyandeo Mali, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself. The news abruptly wounded the programme of Kirtan was ounded up and the government officials - Tahsildar Mr Ganesh Patil, and Block Development Officer Mr Jagtap, who were present for the programme, rushed to the place of incident, official sources said.

Mali was a debt-ridden farmer and frustrated over the failure of crops. He had taken loan from UCO Bank and Central Co-op Bank. He is survived by wife and two children, family sources said.

In the second incident, 55-year-old Mr Shankar Shivram Ingole of village Wadhwi in Karanja Tahsil area of adjoining Washim district allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his house on March 5. He was a debt-ridden farmer and frustrated over the constant crop failure, police and family sources said.

Doctor found performing sex determination tests

Ahmedabad, Mar 7 (UNI) A city-based doctor was today allegedly caught by the Gujarat Health Department officials in a sting operation conducted to check sex determination cases and two of his sonography machines were seized. HC grants bail to Manjeet Singh Sethi, his son in kidnapping case

Mumbai, Mar 7 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today granted bail to dance bar crusader Manjeet Singh Sethi and his son Vicky on a surety of Rs 50,000 each in the 1997 case of kidnapping, torture and robbery.
