Sundaram-Clayton showcases ABS for commercial vehicles

Chennai, Mar 7 (UNI) Leading global commercial vehicle control system manufacturer Sundaram-Clayton Ltd, has showcased the next generation Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) for commercial vehicles.

ABS system was developed by its joint venture partner WABCO and now being manufactured by the company at their new, state-of-art facility at Ambattur here.

During the demonstration, officials from the company claimed that industry leaders had recognised ABS as one of the most significant technology advanced by modern automotive engineering, that would meet the highest safety standards in braking systems.

The Ministry of Shipping, Road transport and Highways had made it mandatory to fit ABS for vehicles of N2 and N3 category, other than tractor-trailer combination meant for carrying hazardous goods and liquid petroleum gas.

Further the government stipulated that from October 2007, all India tourist busses should also fit ABS.

Along with improving vehicle stability and stopping, ABS would also enable drivers to handle emergency braking situations more easily.

With the addition of electronic controls on the brake system, wheel locking would be avoided and thus accidents would be reduced by preventing vehicle skidding, enabling braking and eliminating tyre flat spots, the officials added.

ACB raid on PCB official

Vijayawada, Mar 7 (UNI) The Anti Corruption Bureau officials today conducted a raid the residence of Pollution Control Board (PCB) official and seized Rs 50 lakh property from him. According to ACB officials here, the raid was conducted this morning on PCB Environmental Engineer, P Ravindranath's residence and seized some documents, bank deposits and cash worth Rs 50 lakh. Their demands included appointment of Laboratary Assistant and provision of computer facilities. 29 injured as bus overturns

Malappuram, Mar 7 (UNI) Twentynine passengers were injured and two of them seriously, when the bus in which they were travelling overturned near Vattapara on National Highway in the district today. According to police, the private bus was proceeding from Kozhikode to Guruvayoor when the acident occurred. The injured were admitted to the Valencherry and Perinthalmanna hospital, police added.
