Students conduct strike

Puducherry, Mar 7 (UNI) Students of the Government Motilal Nehru Polytechnic college here today conducted a sit in strike to press their demands.

Their demands included appointment of Laboratary Assistant and provision of computer facilities.

Meanwhile, the lecturers also organised an agitation in the campus pressing for promotion and hike in salary.

29 injured as bus overturns

Malappuram, Mar 7 (UNI) Twentynine passengers were injured and two of them seriously, when the bus in which they were travelling overturned near Vattapara on National Highway in the district today. According to police, the private bus was proceeding from Kozhikode to Guruvayoor when the acident occurred. The injured were admitted to the Valencherry and Perinthalmanna hospital, police added. Kancheepuram, Mar 7 (UNI) One person was killed and three seriously injured when a mini lorry hit a stationary sand lorry today. Police said the mini lorry was proceeding to Chennai from Chittoor when the mishap occurred at Vedal near here killing Subramani (42) who was travelling in the vehicle. Vijayawada, Mar 7 (UNI) The National Mazdoor Union (NMU) recognised trade union in the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) today warned of resuming its stir if the State Government failed to curb illicit operations of private buses. Chennai, Mar 7 (UNI) Police arrested 366 AIADMK men, including 53 women, for attempting to defy prohibitory orders and hold demonstration before the Tiruvotriyur Municipality here today.
