Spice Mobile launches People's phone at a price less than Rs 1,000

Mumbai, Mar 7 (UNI) Spice Mobile Phone today launched its Spice People's phone at a price less than Rs 1,000 to make it available to every common man.

Spice, a group company of Mcorp Global, launched the people's phone at a time when few big cellphone companies are holding sway over the market.

Commenting on a recent survey, which says that the top six mobile phone makers account for 86 per cent of all sales, the Chairman of Mcorp Global, Dr B K Modi, said ''It is the high price of cellphone that merely 20 crore people in the country with a population of more than 120 crore own a cellphone.'' He claimed that the new mobile phone, which was launched today will be able to register a market share of 10 per cent by 2010.

Formally launching the new handset, Bollywood actor, Katrina Kaif, said ''Today is the era of technology, still the high price of handsets makes it difficult for the commonman to own a cellphone.

Hence I hope the new People's Phone, which offers only voice solutions, will be able to fill the gap.'' Also, he informed that his company will soon launch TV phone with built-in TV tuner and Movie/DVD phone equipped with blue ray technology. Likely to be launched in three months from now, the TV phone will make one able to watch live telecast and rotating screen for effortless viewing on one's mobile phone. The DVD phone will be launched by the year-end. The price range for a range of 15 new handsets to be launched by the company vary between Rs 1,500 and Rs 35,000.

As part of its strategy, spice will have strong distribution network. To begin with Hotspots, Mcorp Global's technology retail outlets will be the core distributor for Mumbai, who in turn will distribute to the retail outlets across the city. Spice has 36 distributors who in turn enjoy more than 75 micro distributors completing the distribution channel.

Talking about the marketing strategy, company CEO, Kunal Ahuja, said ''My company has adopted a reverse marketing strategy.'' In the initial phase, Spice will target tier II and tier III cities with its range of entry-level monochrome and colour handsets and focus on building its brand 'Spice Mobile Phone'.
