Son, 2 others, caught for killing father

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Police have arrested three people, including the son of a man murdered in November last, for their alleged involvement in the abduction and killing of the 48-year-old.

23-year-old Diwakar was arrested along with two of his collegues -- Arun Kumar (21) and Avinash alias Multan (28) -- for killing Niranjan Singh (48) as he feared losing the house where he lived, police said today.

During interrogation Diwakar said he felt insecure after he heard of his father's plan to remarry and feared that he would be deprived of the house, where he lived and which was in his name.

This, he said, forced him to hatch a conspiracy which his associates to kill his father, an alcoholic who had separated from his mother eight years back.

He further said they called Niranjan Singh to Meerut to get him aquainted to a prospective 'bride' where he was strangled and thrown into the Gang Canal in village Jani of Meerut district.

Diwakar had promised to pay Rs 50,000 to his associates for the job, police added.

Foreigner's entry delays Lord's lunch in Jagannath Temple

Puri, Mar 1 (UNI) The lunch of Lord Jagannath, the guardian deity of Orissa, was delayed by about three hours today following "unauthorised" entry of a non Hindu foreign national into the temple. After identified by the servitors, the foreigner was taken into protective custody by the police and was fined for his "misadventure". Temple sources said at about 14 hours one Paul Roediger (59), a resident of New York along with two Indian friends had entered into the temple through.....

DSCDRC issues notices to TV channels

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission today issued notices to various television pay channels and cable operators on a petition questioning the practice of TV channels to charge from their viewers while they showed advertisements in their programmes. The petition filed by voluntary consumer organisation, Society of Catalysts, urged the commission to hold the case as a 'restrictive trade practice' as the viewers were forced to watch advertisements as a precondition for watching the TV programmes.....
