Security beefed up at Ram Janmabhoomi complex

Ayodhya, Mar 7 (UNI) A red alert has been sounded at the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi complex, following the recovery of a letter allegedly sent by terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba, which threatned to create havoc in several districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Pandey said the security has been intensified after a department of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) received the letter. Besides, intelligence inputs have also pointed threat to Ram temple.

Mr Pandey added the help of anti-bomb disposal squads and close circuit cameras is also being taken. ''The administration is in no mood to take any risk.'' Meanwhile, security at the world famous Taj Mahal in Agra has also been upgraded after intelligence inputs pointed to a threat to one of the seven wonders of the world.

According to sources, coordination with the local police and other security agencies was also being done to provide a foolproof system to ward off any danger to the historic monument.

Recently, two Pakistani nationals had absconded from police custody as they were being taken to a district court for a hearing.

Maqsood Ahmed alias Ashraf and Mohammad Saeed alias Mazhar were held in 2002 from Ghazipur under the Prevention of Terrorist Activities (POTA) Act.
