Rane to present vote-on-account tomorrow

Panaji, Mar 6 (UNI) Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane will present a four-month vote-on-account tomorrow in the Goa Legislative Assembly.

The five-day Budget Session, which began yesterday, is the last session of the present House as its term ends in May end. The new government will present the full budget.

In the 40-member House, the Congress has 18 members and is supported by two NCP members, one independent and an MGP member. The BJP has 15 members and is backed by the lone UGDP member Mathanhy Saldanha who was stripped of his right to vote and participate in debates following a High Court directive after he was disqualified by the Speaker. A BJP member, Babu Azgaonkar, had quit to become a minister in the Rane government.

'Assamese' definition creates uproar in Assembly

Guwahati, Mar 6 (UNI) The issue of an all-encompassing definition of 'Assamese' people created uproar in the Asom Assembly today, with several members of the House demanding tribal state status to protect the rights of the indigenous population. Assam Accord Implementation Minister Bhumidhar Barman informed the House that the process to arrive at a definition of 'Assamese' people, acceptable to all, had been initiated. Mizoram encroaching forest land in Asom:Roy

Guwahati, Mar 6 (UNI) The Asom government today informed the Assembly that neighbouring Mizoram has encroached upon 536 hectares of forest land of the state. Replying to a written question on encroachment of Asom land by Mizoram, state Border Areas Minister Gautam Roy said the encroachment had taken place in Santipur Kolalen, Lushaicherra Kalagang and Medhlicherra Kotamoni in the reserve forest areas. However, no encroachment had taken place over Patta or government "khas" land by Mizoram at Rangamati-Khanhum site.....

ULFA triggers fresh attacks in Asom

Guwahati, Mar 6 (UNI) A CRPF vehicle came under a bomb attack triggered by ULFA injuring three people, including two CRPF jawans as violence returned to Asom after a month of lull following the National Games.
