Over 3.5 tonnes iron ball bearings meant for LTTE seized

Tiruchirapalli, Mar 7 (UNI) Continuing its crackdown, the Tamil Nadu 'Q' branch police is believed to have seized more than 3.5 tonnes of iron ball bearings meant for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) from a local soap manufacturing company at Venkatachalapathy Nagar in neighbouring Perambalur district last night.

According to reliable sources, close on the heels of the arrest of a Sri Lankan national Arulseelan (32), suspected to have links with LTTE at Dheeran Nagar in the city yesterday, for possessing Rs ten lakh cash in his house, a special team from the 'Q'Branch here raided the 'Top One Dargo Washing Powder Company' and effected the seizure.

The company's head office was functioning at Gandhipuram in Coimbatore. It was stated that the iron ball bearings were packed in several gunny bags and stored in the company to be transported for LTTE.

Though the police officials have secured one person, believed to be a Sri Lankan national during the raid, they were yet to book the mastermind, the owner of the company, who was absconding. A policeman in civil dress was posted near the company to keep a watch, the sources added.
