One-day strike of auto-rickshaws, TMT buses in Thane

Thane, Mar 7 (UNI) Thousands of auto-rickshaws and the entire fleet of Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) buses went off roads since last midnight following a strike call given by their respective unions.

The one-day ordeal has thrown the life of Thane city out of gear and the worst affected are the school students having their exams and the office-goers besides lakhs of citizens from the city.

Both the unions are lead by trade union leader Sharad Rao, who is next only to the late Datta Samant and has proved to be a master trade union leaders.

As regards the demands of the auto-rickshaws, it is increase in fares and additional CNG facilities.

In respect of TMT buses it is increased wages, allowances, and opposition to the part privatization of services and running of contract buses.

Since beginning of the strike no untoward incident has been reported. Following the strike, the streets in the city were almost deserted.

Police arrests two for robbing couple in Lonavala

Lonavala, Pune, Mar 7 (UNI) Police arrested two persons today, for robbing a couple in a private hotel here, while another person is absconding. Police said the couple Sachin Arvind Sahasrabuddhe (35) and his wife Reshma went to Lonavala and they parked their car and retired for the night. In the morning of March five, Sachin found his car, mobile and cash of Rs 6,500 missing. He immediately called on his mobile and the robber, who stole it disclosed.....

BJP accuses NCP of using strong arm tactics

Mumbai, Mar 7 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused the NCP of using strong arm tactics to get its candidates elected in the zilla parishad elections. BJP spokesman Madhav Bhandari said that the party candidate Subhash Mali was forced to sign on the withdrawal form in Tasgaon in Sangli district. Mr Bhandari, while alleging that the form was accepted even after expiry of the withdrawal time, demanded that action should be taken against the election officer and DSP of Sangli.....

Civic engineer manhandled by corporator

Kolhapur, Mar 7 (UNI) A civic engineer was today manhandled by a corporator who was allegedly enraged that a drinking water project in his ward had been started without hosting any official function. The corporator, Suresh Dhonukshe, was allegedly angry that Kolhapur Municipal Corporation water supply department engineer Sharad Ghatge had started the project without any fanfare thereby depriving the former of any credit for the project. Mr Dhonukshe had earlier expressed a desire that a function should be hosted to.....
