NREGP to be extended to 130 more districts

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) The Centre today announced that the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), a flagship programme of the ruling UPA, will be extended to 130 more districts, including 15 with incidents of farmers' suicide, during the current year.

Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Sing told the Lok Sabha during Zero Hour that the largest number of 17 districts would be from Uttar Pradesh.

He did not, however, name the beneficiary districts in Uttar Pradesh in the context of the forthcoming assembly elections in the state.

The Scheme, which seeks to provide guaranteed employment to one member of each rural household for 100 days a year, has already been implemented in 200 districts, covering 16.6 million households and generating 640 million mandays of employment on 600,000 works.

Number of documents were concluded during Putin's visit: Pranab

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee today informed the Lok Sabha that a number of bilateral documents were concluded during the recent visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India. Govt assures RS of security to NE TV

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) The government came under fire in Rajya Sabha today on the issue of security to NE TV owner in Asom in the wake of the ULFA threat to him, even as the Centre assured the members that it would do everything possible for his safety. AXN was ninth channel to be banned in India: Dasmunsi

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) The telecast of AXN channel programmes was prohibited in India with effect from January 17 for airing obscene programmes, but the order was withdrawn on March one following the channel's submission of apology, the government today said. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said it was the ninth channel to be banned in India.
