Northeast Frontier Railway to launch Anti-Collision Device on Mar 9

Guwahati, Mar 7 (UNI) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is all set to launch the final commissioning trial of Anti-Collision Device(ACD) on March 9 as part of a pilot project of the Indian Railways.

A successful final commissioning run will lead to introduction of the device in the entire system of the NFR on a later date. NFR General Manager A K Sanwalka today informed that the Indian Railways had chosen NFR for the Rs 250 crore ACD pilot project.

Once the ACDs are successful in NFR, the same will also be introduced in other parts of the country. The indigenously developed ACDs are expected to prevent head-on collision between two trains running on the same track.

The ACD helps locomotives detect a train on the same track, coming from the opposite direction at a distance of about six km and automatic brakes become active, without being noticed by either driver.

ACDs are mounted on locomotives, stations and level crossing gates. An ACD-fitted locomotive can detect a manned level crossing from a distance of three km while ACDs fitted in unmanned level crossings would alert people much in advance about an approaching train.
