Negative marking in Civil Services Exam from this year

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Negative marking will be introduced in Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination from this year.

The UPSC has decided to introduce negative marking as a strong deterrent against guesswork and to accurately assess the level of competence and proficiency of candidates, Minister of State for Personnel Suresh Pachouri informed the Lok Sabha today.

''Besides, this practice is in keeping with the practice adopted by other competitive examining bodies in the country,'' he said during Question Hour.

Although the recommendations were received in August 1989, the UPSC after due consideration did not agree to the proposal of introduction of negative marking at that time.

X X X Corruption: As many as 175 complaints of corruption were received against IAS officers during 2005 and 2006.

The Home Ministry, however, received 26 complaints of corruption against IPS officers during that period.

NO IAS or IPS officer was terminated from service on the basis of such complaints, Mr Pachouri said.

Infiltration from Pakistan continuing: Govt

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Admitting that incidents of infiltration on Indo-Pakistan border were continuing, the Government today said strong protests notes have been lodged and the issue was raised at the various bi-annual meetings between the two countries. Shaukat invited to attend SAARC summit in India

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee today informed the Lok Sabha that Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had been invited to attend the 14th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit here in April this year. The invitation, on behalf of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, was extended by Mr Mukherjee during his visit to Pakistan in January.
