Metal prices hike on good industrial demand

Mumbai, Mar 7 (UNI) Metal prices hiked on good industrial demand along with the London Metal Exchange, traders at the Bombay Metal Exchange said today.

In the ferrous category, copper heavy and brass cuttings increased by Rs 400 and Rs 600 per quintal respectively on higher advices. Copper utensils and brass utensils also inched up by Rs 200 each per quital on reduced stocks supply.

In the non-ferrous segment, copper wire bars rose by Rs 500 per quintal and aluminium ingots, zinc slabs and lead ingots went up by Rs 100 each per quintal due to better buying support.

Nickel cathode also soared by Rs 10 per kg on improved demand.

Following are the spot metal prices per quintal: Ferrous metals: Copper heavy - Rs 31,000, copper utensils - Rs 28,900, brass utensils - Rs 23,500, brass cuttings - Rs 25,000 and aluminium utensils - Rs 11,900.

Non-ferrous metals: Copper wire bars - Rs 34,500, aluminium ingots - Rs 14,500, zinc slab Rs 18,800, lead ingots - Rs 8,400, tin slab - Rs 680 (per kg) and nickel cathode - Rs 2,050 (per kg).

Mindtree Consulting trades at 660.90 at NSE

Mumbai, Mar 7 (UNI) The New Public issue of Mindtree Consulting this morning was for the first time trading at Rs 660.90 on National Stock Exchange (NSE), a premium of 55.5 per cent over Initial Public Offering (IPO) price of Rs 425. A leading broker informed that the stock debuted at Rs 627. It hit a low of Rs 590 and a high of Rs 668.80 during the noon. A huge 15.2 lakh shares had changed hands in the counter......

Sensex plunge as investors adamant on selling

Mumbai, Mar 7 (UNI) The 30-scrip Sensex today plunged by 117.34 points at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) to end in the red at 12,579.75 points from its previous close of 12,697.09, as a general negative sentiment ensured that selling adamantly refused to die down. ''The Sensex lost early gains as investors used every uptrend as an opportunity to sell,'' a broker lamented. On the other hand, the Nifty Index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) too plummeted by 28.80 points,.....

Rupee opens inches up at 44.43/45 per USD

Mumbai, Mar 7 (UNI) The Indian Rupee inched up against the US dollar this morning at 44.43/45 against its previous day's close of 44.46/47 close as the stock market showed signs of stabilising after some sharp losses, but traders were wary of reading too much into the rise, dealers said. Later, the partially convertible Rupee was range bound of five to six paise and quoted between at 44.43 and 44.51 per dollar, stronger than yesterday's close of 44.46/47. All eyes.....
