HC notice to Haryana DGP' son promotion to rape accused

Chandigarh, Mar 7 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court today asked the Haryana police chief to explain how a state police inspector Phul Kumar, suspended and declared a proclaimed offender for his alleged involvement in the gang rape of a minor girl from Ambala in 2001, was re-instated and promoted to the rank of a Deputy Superintendent Police(DSP) the same year.

The order by the division bench of Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rajive Bhalla, came during resumed hearing on the PIL of Sunil Juneja of Ambala who has prayed for action against those responsible for such an act in the face of court orders.

The matter would now come up for further consideration on May 23 but the affidavit from the police chief has to be with the court at least 10 days before that, the court said.

11 lorries carrying illegal sand quarrying impounded

Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, Mar 7 (UNI) Police today seized and impounded 11 lorries for illegally carrying sand from quarries from Palar river at Chengalpattu near here and handed them over to the Revenue Department. Talking to newspersons here District Deputy Superintendent of Police Senthil Kumar said a police team acting on instructions from District Superintendent A Amalraj impounded six lorries at Thimmavaram Palar, near Chengalpattu and five lorries at Villiampakkam. Mr Kumar said police were constantly monitoring theft of sand.....

Engineer arrested in disproportionate assets case

Hyderabad, Mar 07 (UNI) Sleuths of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today conducted a raid on the houses of Executive Engineer- AP Polution Control Board and unearthed assets worth over Rs 58 lakh. The Officials conducted the searches in the houses of P Ravindranath at Gudavalli village in Guntur district.
