Cycle rally to mark 75th year of Bhagat Singh's martyrdom

Ahmedabad, Mar 7 (UNI) The All India Democratic Students Organisation (DSO) will organise a cycle rally on March 11 from Feroz Kotla in Delhi to Hussainiwalla in Punjab to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

Seventy-five cyclists, nine of them from Gujarat, will participate in the rally and cover the 500-km distance while hosting street plays en route, Gujarat unit DSO secretary Bhavik Raja told UNI. The cyclists will reach Hussainiwalla on March 23, he added.

Mr Raja said the rally is being organised to acquaint the present generation of the real contributions of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. The government, he alleged, has not taken proper cognisance of the 75th anniversary of their martyrdom.

The All India Democratic Students Organisation has demanded that the statues of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev be installed in Parliament and at other places. A commemorative stamp depicting the three martyrs should also be released, the organisation demanded.

Meanwhile, Mr Raja informed that the Gujarat unit of the DSO has undertaken the task of documenting works of Bhagat Singh who had written articles in Hindi and Punjabi. ''We have translated these articles into Gujarati and brought out booklets,'' Mr Raja said.
