Curb Pvt operators, NMU demands

Vijayawada, Mar 7 (UNI) The National Mazdoor Union (NMU) recognised trade union in the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) today warned of resuming its stir if the State Government failed to curb illicit operations of private buses.

Addressing a press conference here, NMU general secretary Syed Mohamood said the government departments, including transport department have failed to control the plying of private buses, resulting in APSRTC incurring losses to the tune of Rs 1000 crore per annum.

He said most of these buses which obtained permits to run as contact carriages were being operated as stage carriages.

DA for coop weavers up in Pondy

Puducherry, Mar 7 (UNI) The administration today enhanced the Dearness Allowance (DA) of co-operative weavers from 58 per cent to 70 per cent. According to an offical release here, the enhancement will take restrospective effect from November one, 2006. The exchequer will incur an additional expenditure of Rs 25 lakh a year in view of the enhancement. UNI.....

AP Govt to provide pensions to poor

Hyderabad, Mar 7 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today decided to grant pensions to all old age persons, widows, deserted women and physically handicapped belonging to BPL families in areas coming under Greater Hyderabad. At a meeting with Ministers and officials here, the Chief Minister said this was according to the government's decision to provide saturation in pensions to these categories. PT activists stage demo to fill lecturers post in Govt colleges

Chennai, Mar 7 (UNI) Activists of Puthiya Thamizhagam (PT) today staged a slogan shouting demonstration here, urging the Tamil Nadu Government to fill the 525 backlog vacancies of the lecturers post in Government Colleges at one go. The stir led by party founder-president Dr K Krishnasamy, also demanded that the Government should earmark an exclusive fund in the ensuing state budget for filling the existing three lakh vacancies in various state government departments. TDP forces adjournment of AP House

Hyderabad, Mar 7 (UNI) Andra Pradesh Speaker K R Suresh Reddy today adjourned the House for 15 minutes as members of main opposition TDP created bedlam over their demand for a debate on irregularities in the allocation of assigned land for distribution particularly to minority community in Srikakulam district.
