CPI(M) announces candidates for 14 UP assembly seats

Lucknow, Mar 7 (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist) today announced it would contest 14 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh assembly poll, even as it urged the ruling Samajwadi Party to support these candidates.

Party's state secretary S P Kashyap said here the main agenda of CPI(M) will be to defeat communal forces. ''We will ask the people to vote for a secular government in UP.'' ''We have also urged SP to support our candidates,'' he clarified denying there would be an alliance with the ruling party in UP.

In the 2002 poll, CPI(M) won two assembly seats after contesting six. The seats won were Meja in Allahabad district and Najibabad in Bijnore district.

The candidates announced by the party are: Ramkripal (Meja), Rajkumar (Najibabad), Ramjag (Mehnagar), Ram Krishna Yadav (Ballia), Shri Prasad (Bakiya), Pyare lal Jaiswal (Rajgarh), Dr Rajnath Singh Yadav (Sorao), Dinanath Singh Yadav (Bhatparrani), Lalmani Verma (Gangapur), Gyan Singh Baghel (Soro), Jagvir Singh Rathi (Sayana), Sabhajit (Kadipur), Mukesh Yadav (Firozabad) and Daulat Ram (Tundla).

CEC to review first phase polling preparedness on Mar 10
