CPI (ML) fields Ravindra Bhuiyan in Palamu by-poll

Ranchi, Mar 7 (UNI) The CPI (ML) will field Mr Ravindra Bhuiyan in the Palamu Parliamentary seat by-election slated for March 29.

Party state General Secretary Mr Subhendu Sen informed reporters today that Mr Bhuiyan would file his nomination on March 9.

The CPI (ML) leader said the UPA and NDA were ''divided forces'' following inner party squabble ''which would be advantageous'' to their party nominee.

The last date for filing nomination was fixed on March 10, scrutiny will take place on March 12 and the last date of withdrawal is March 13. The result would be declared on April one.

The by-election was necessitated after Mr Manoj Bhuiyan(RJD) had to lose the Lok Sabha seat following a money-query scam.

Seminar on women Mar 8

Tirupati, Mar 6 (UNI) A two-day national seminar on empowerment of women in Indian scenariao will be conducted for first time by the TTD -run Sri Padmavathi Women's Degree College on March eight and nine. The event is sponsored by University Grants Commission (UGC). According to a press release, the seminar would discuss the real status of women in economic, social and poltical spheres and evaluate the adequacy of legislative provisions and institutional mechanisms for development and empowerment of Indian women......

MP bypolls: Job cards allowed

Bhopal, Mar 7 (UNI) If a voter does not have a voter's identity card he or she may flash job cards, issued on or before December 31, 2006 under the Madhya Pradesh Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, during polling on March 8 for byelections to Gwalior and Sidhi (ST) parliamentary constituencies and Udaypura assembly seat, State Election Office sources said quoting an Election Commission directive. Other 18 alternatives included passports, driving licenses, Permanent Account Number cards, property documents, Below Poverty Line cards.....

CPM holds demo

Vellore, Tamil Nadu, Mar 6 (UNI) The CPI (M) today held a demonstration before the Collectorate to declare the district as dought-hit. The demonstrators led by Taluk Secretary M P Ramachandran also sought an end to illicit sand quarrying in River Palar and preventing Andhra Pradesh from constructing a dam across the river. UNI.....
