CM unveils perspective 2025-plan for Durgapur-Asansol

Durgapur, Mar 7 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today unveiled a perspective 2025-plan for Durgapur and Asansol industrial towns of Burdwan district and stressed the need of having long-term policy for sustained and qualitative development of the state.

''We need to have long term plans, say 20 to 25 years' plan so that scientific and systematic growth can be achieved for all sections of people- from rich people to merginal farmers,'' said Mr Bhattacharjee.

He also stressed the need for infrastructural back ups like energy, roads, good housings, quality educational institutions and top level engineering and technological colleges so that industrial resources could be available from the state itself.

Citing some examples, he said these industrial towns besides producing steel and iron, now diversified into making engineers from various politechnic and engineering colleges.

He said in the past three years Rs 10,000 crore were invested for various projects in Durgapur.

He said Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) planned to build a power project at Andal for supplying energy in Burdwan district, similarly his government has also planned to create many power projects for supplying electricty to home and commercial consumers across the state.

He also opened a shopping mall at the city centre here.

The perspective plans in two volumes, prepared by IIT, Khargapur, have detailed project reports for various developmental schemes for Durgapur and Asansol.

State Urban Development Minister Ashok Bhattacharya, who was also present on the occasion, said the government has decided to adhere strictly to landuse policy for sustained development of industry and agriculture.

Uttam Galva JV to set up steel mill in Ghana

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Uttam Galva Steels Ltd has formed a joint venture with UK-based trading company Liberty Commodities to build a new steel re-roller mill in Ghana with an investment of 20 million dollars.
